My team is very used to strangers handling them and I don't think even really notice anymore! :)
The trick to being a good handler is to listen to your musher and follow their instructions. EVery musher has quirks and their own methods of doing things - you need to be attentive to and respect that. :)

Don't know much at all about the mini Sibes or Klee Kais, as I believe they are called. I actually think they are more of a mini Alaskan Husky then a Siberian. I would expect them to have more of a small dog personality then a typical Siberian one.

Just a quick note - I'm hitting the road back to Canada early tomorrow morning and once we get home, it usually takes a while to get up to speed on everything going on at home, so I won't be active on the forum for awhile!

Just so you all don't think I'm being rude! :)

Have a safe trip home Karen.
I will ask this question now so I don't forget but answer it when you have time.
I have seen pictures of volunteers handling the dropped dogs and taking them to the plane and they seem to haul them by their collars and the dogs are running on their hind legs. Is this acceptable practice?
It's like spring here in North Central Alberta.

Absolutely, that is the proper way to haul around a sled dog! :) It is the way the dogs are used to being handled and it keeps the 'control' in the hands of the human. A sled dog with 4 on the floor is a force of nature! :)

BTW - the Dog Drop folks are VERY good at their jobs and take exceptional care of our drop dogs. If you see them doing something with the dogs, chances are that is the way it should be done! :) :)

Hi Daphne,
The "mini-Siberians" are called Klee Kai. They are NOT purebred Siberians, and, therefore in my mind, less than perfect! LOL!
From what I understand, they were started with a very small female Siberian (about 20 pounds or so) and have lots of Pomeranian in them, too. If you look closely at them, you can tell they are not purebred Siberians. They're cute, but not the Real Thing!
