According to Russ at IonEarth:
Ken is about 1/3 of the way to Koyuk. He's transmitting solid but without sending any GPS data. Iridium satellites also can send position information so I modified the server to use Iridium position if there is no other GPS position available. Iridium's accuracy is +- some number of MILES compared to our normal accuracy of 6 feet.

The system will now use Iridiums location information as long as it is accurate to +- two miles and our normal GPS positions updates are unavailable. So he will show up again but not necessarily in exactly the right place.

I still have to create some method of indicating the position is a best guess. Other mushers may also appear slightly off course rather than not getting updated at all for a period of time.

This also only gives me position. Speed and heading cannot be calculated from Iridium data.

I hardly have anymore rant left in me about this GPS thingy.

there are valleys low enough
there are mountains high enough

Thank you, Tangles. I'm still trying to get my feet on the ground; hadn't gotten around to finding the cams. I just got a message from Gatekeeper. She is helping but up the fences/barriers near the finish line in Nome, and said she loves the small town feel there. She is only able to get on line at the library (up hill in ice and 30 min. limit) or at a coffee shop. She will post when she gets a chance.

Anyone predicting end time yet? I think Lance's interviews are WAY too heavy on 'the mistakes I'm making/my own worst enemy'. PSYCH But.....Jeff is sure having a jolly good time and has 16 dogs.....you can't fake that. Wouldn't it be great to have a shoot out on Front Street........race to the finish.

WooooWeeeee, this is fun.
