How did the storm change the 2009 Iditarod finish

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I'm guessing that's where he retired from racing, took a long rest, then meandered into Nome. ...Dave

Last night in chat we were talking about other years and other storms. We have an Iditabud name of eorogers. Eric shared many tails about raising and training sled dogs. He also ran the Iditarod a couple years, one of those years was 2009. There was a big bad storm that year also. Eric and a few others 'camped' out on the Yukon. We sat in our cozy homes and worried. I found this thread. There is a link in here that should take you to his report about that experience, but, it wouldn't open for me, I hope someone else has better luck.

So the 2018 storm is not the first one to affect the race.

Thanks for bumping up this thread, Fdf. Imagine the stories told around campfires and woodstoves since that race--and those to be told going forward from this one.

He's living in Colorado. Pushing a bike around the countryside instead of a dog sled.

I sent a note to him in one of his Facebook posts and got this reply:
"Yeah, I burned out a little, and I'm feeling homesick - the combination is kind of tough to handle :-)"
We've all been there and should understand, hopefully he will be back soon.
Proud PaPa of the triplet litter; Aidan (B), Bailey (G), and Cameron (B). Cameron is on top in picture; Bailey, of course, is the bowhead!!

Thanks SC, hope that passes and he will be able to join us next year. Loved the way he taught us about training his dogs.
He makes learning enjoyable.
