mammamia - beautiful idea. I will light a candle at the site after this post.

Tangles posted elsewhere that Kim is stuck at the checkpoint because of warm weather. The trail is flooded....think I'll light one for her too, as she is the current red lantern.

think that was deb. bicknell on the video, def not our kimbo...
we have had out lantern going since the re start so far not gone out, keep toppin git up with oil...need to buy some more tomorrow.. its a proper job, really nice tall one with glass cowling. and i discoverd if you sit a camp kettle on the top it boils it for coffee in about 20 minutes..saves popping out to make some in the kitchen...now if i can only rig up a outhouse in the spare room/idita-fan HQ then i wouldnt have to leave!

oh look - 75% of Team Tangles in a row on the avatars!

Just topped up the oil on the virtual candles

Team Tangles - your lamp sounds very cool......the real thing

Hope Kim gets out OK and is not 'out of time' or whatever the official term is.

Tangles - Boo posted on the Cripple 1 thread that mushers are 'encouraged' to move on or scratch.

It appears that Kim Franklin is now showing as "Withdrawn" in the current standings

From the Iditarod site:

Rohn, March 6, 2008 – Rookie musher Kim Franklin, from the United Kingdom, was withdrawn from the 2008 Iditarod earlier today.
Franklin reported that one of her dogs chewed through the gangline and two dogs left the team during Franklin’s nighttime run from Rainy Pass to Rohn. She was unable to locate them and went on to Rohn.

Under Iditarod rules, mushers must arrive in a checkpoint with the same number of dogs that they left the previous checkpoint with in order to continue in the race.

A withdrawal has the effect of involuntarily eliminating a musher and team from the race but does not imply any deliberate misconduct or violation. The two dogs were located back down the trail in Rainy Pass and were flown to Anchorage and released to their handler.

Bummer, seems like they took a long time to withdraw her. Glad she found the pups!
