Yentna

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Yentna

Postby mamamia » Sun Mar 02, 2008 7:58 pm

With 14 mushers into and out of Yentna, Hugh Neff gets the prize for most improved musher. We knew that the most competative mushers would push to the front and try to get out ahead of the pack but Hugh improved his position 6 places. Martin and Lance have each improved their position 4 places. Neff posted 11.67 mph and Lance 11.61, Martin 11.51.

Now that I've seen the first checkpoint stats posted I can go take my first power nap of the race. I'll see ya'll in about 5 hours to catch up on Yentna and Skwentna.

Reports I've seen are that the trail to Yentna was hard and fast - Good on Hugh for his speed, but don't put too much store in these early results...

Rick Casillo and Scott Smith moved from 34th and 35th into the 16th and 17th positions, each averaging more than 12 mph. They won't be able to keep that speed up for long. But what a ride while they do.
Wag more, bark less.

I hear ya tranq, It's just that there's not much else to post about at the first checkpoint and I wanted to get the party started.

At the ceremonial Hugh said he'd try harder this year! I think he just gets out there and enjoys the wildrness so much that he forgets it's a race!

More results in, more big names pushing to the front... Jonrowe, Iten, Gatt, Seavey to name a few.
