Discovery Team Gizmos

Postby Johncn » Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:16 pm

Hey,

One of the SBT gang got some good close up shots of one of the Last Great Race Reality Show musher's sled. It was interesting, though, that the technical person or producer who was working with the gear on the sled said nicely that he was not allowed answer any questions about the equipment...hee hee. They promised to talk to the SBT in Nome and be more revealing 8-)

Quite interesting setup, actually, with handlebar mounted video cams...one forward and one at the musher. :ugeek:

Also, the recording and battery pack, and some other gear looks very compact and well designed for extreme conditions.

The production company that does the Deadliest Catch is doing this, as most of you know:

Very cool. Love that channel (Mythbusters!) and so glad they've caught on to dog-sledding! I can still see those cameras getting clipped off, though...

The race can't be any harder on the equipment than the crab boats! Have you ever seen any of the behind the scenes specials about Deadliest Catch. There is one where they show all the new fancy equipment before the fishing season starts and then a pile of busted up junk at season's end. Impressive!

Only seeing the first picture, though, just the little box for the next 2...

No more rough, mamamia, over all, but somewhat different environement - The Deadliest Catch gear didn't have to contend with low-sweeping branches, rollovers, and such. It'll be a learning experience - I don't doubt their gear is tough, but they're going to get more than a few surprises.

Yep, I suspect there will be an impressive pile of broken equipment at the end of this race just like at the end of a crab season. It will be interesting to see how it holds up. No salt water but freezing cold, sled crashes, branches, sleepy mushers... Do we know which sleds they are on?

Oooh, thanks, very alien looking gizmos-at least to me!

Which sleds? Rachael and Joe, at the minimum. Other than that, I dunno.

Lance? In Mith's adventures there were lots of references to Discovery Channel film crews around him.
