question about Alaska

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

question about Alaska

Postby adella » Fri Mar 04, 2011 10:43 am

First can't wait for race to start. Still thinking about my pics--Lance is of course pick for first.
Thought this good time to ask this question since lots of people on board next 2 weeks.
Husband and I are thinking of going to Alaska next year. Thinking to mainly going to Denali Park since our main interest is hiking, also some side trips.
If we go end August--what would be the bug situation ? We have hiked in White Mts with black flies--miserable.
Do not want to camp--too old for that. We are in our late 60's but in good shape. Hiked 65 miles last year in Canadian Rockies. But I want a bed, shower and restaurant at night.
So who has recommendations for the lodges in Denali, hikes, etc.
Thank you.
Aim in life-to be the person my dogs think I am
