This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Perhaps they should put in a revolving door at Rainy Pass. In a 2H 13M time span, 20 teams left the checkpoint. That's an average of a team every 6.6 minutes. Those folks are busy.
Wag more, bark less.

This off of ADN about Rainey Pass:
Most of them were expected to give their dogs a significant rest after the climb into the Alaska Range, but with the weather closing in, no one was expected to rest long. Wet, heavy snow was reported at Finger Lake, where the planes that follow and support the race were having trouble taking off.
And the forecast was for more snow and blowing snow.

Some fast runs into Rainy pass...
Jeff king fastest so far at 9.33 mph whew!
Mitch Seavey and Kjetil Backen both at 8.91 watch out Kjetil! Mitch is looking good so far this year!
Rick Swenson has been pushing hard to the front and it is nice to see. Into Rainy going 8.87 mph
Ken Anderson gave lance a run for his money in the Quest and this could be his year. 8.82 into Rainey
Martin Buser who is known for having fast teams (he holds the record for shortest time to Nome after all) has been playing cat and mouse with the stats and resting on the trail. It is hard to get a real fix on how fast his team is.
Run Rest/Rest Run
Who will lay over in Rohn and make the 75 mile push to Nikoli in one run?

Great blog by Ken Anderson's wife, Gwen on their website where she disects the run rest ratios of some of the front runners. Heidi can you had their link to our list if it isn't already there.

It's listed under the mushers' websites on that list. Thanks though!

Looks like Benedikt Beisch's speed has taken it's toll. He's dropped like stone down the stats.
