Kjetil Backen

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Does anyone know which dog he left behind and why? There is nothing on Hurdal about it so far.

Hey All,

Guess the kids better learn how to pronounce his name, eh?

Anybody want to send me an audio file of the pronounciation, or upload it themselves? That would be helpful to the professional media covering the race, as well as our SBT kids.

I mean the guy is in first place, we should try to avoid butchering his name!

Wake up Motor, we need your help!!

Dilli would probably know too but she's been MIA a lot today, hang in there John and someone will know! I remember having this conversation last year, seems the K is silent? Not sure though, better wait for the expert opinion ;)

John, if you go to http://aprn.org/, they have a podcast where they say his name. Don't know if they are right, but it's the best I can think of right off hand. You can rewind and listen to it as much as you want. I know last year they tried to give us some Norwegian phonics lessons, but I'm not very good at that! ;)
