This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Ok folks, Nikolai is next up the trail. There are 75 miles between these two checkpoints. Lance spent almost 10 hr from Rohn to Nikolai last year. Kjetil used 7:30 in 2004 after resting for 8:40 in Rohn.

I won't be surprised if Kjetil use the same tacticts this year.
Edit: There are reports of the weather taking a turn for the worse... any more info on that, anyone?

Hmm, I made it easy and had a look at Yr.no. You can get forcasts for any place in the world on that site. Don't know how accurate the forcast is, but it should give us an indication anyway.
According to this forcast, Rohn will get snow both today and tomorrow. It will be cloudy in Nikolai with temps around 32F and a posibility for both rain and snow.

Ramey and Kjetil have left Rohn! Ramey dropped one dog, Kjetil none. The hunt is on!

Kjetil passed Mitch a little while ago and have 3 miles to go before catching up with the sleeping beauties at milemarker 184. According to Ionearth both Cim, Lance and Jeff are resting at almost the same place. They may also be in the company of Ramey and Hugh.
I wonder if any of these guys are tempted to follow Kjetil as he passes by them on the trail...... I think not. They are experienced guys and will almost certainly follow their own game plan.
Anyone with a different opinion?????

There is a long way to go. Each one of these guys knows how they want to run this race, and will not be lured into a cat and mouse at this stage. Sounds like the weather may be turning ugly up there. Stay safe all.

Good morning,
Do you know where your musher is right now?
Kjetill's on the move. Jeff, Mitch and Cim are showing 0 mph and presumably resting.
