McGrath Checkpoint #1

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Well, what is happening... it is difficult to say at the moment. The Ionearth seems to be a bit slow with some of its updates this morning. Lance was standing still for a while and suddenly made a big leap to be in front of Jeff. It is a bit confusing at the moment :?
There is quite a crowd around 264 miles as you can see in tilstede's post.... when studying the Current standings with the order and times out of Nik, there are probabely another 3-5 mushers in between these 5. What a crowd and what a race :)

Good morning, what's happening at McGrath? Only Lance through?

Hurdal reports that King also is through, and Backen is on his way in.

OK. Just had a quick glance at the tracker, seems Kjetil is also out of McGrath.

Edit: But we know from earlier that the CP isn't always mapped correctly from IonEarth...

And now it is official that Jeff and Kjetil is out of the CP. Kjetil seems to have some really good CP routines, took him just 2 mins to be on his way.

Yes, and look at the times from Nikolai to McGrath. The front four three are doing almost the same speed. Nice! And Paul is just on their tails. All of them need rest soon, and probably will rest in Takotna. But 24 there? For Paul it seems doubtful - he's going all the way to the Yukon before his 24 :D

Have monitored IonEarth during the last 24h, and I'm not impressed of the way it's working. The inaccuracy is to big as it's working now. Position itself it gives is most likely accurate, but it looks to me that there's something with the timeframe that dosent match.
Dont know this particular system, so I will not go any deeper into this.
This morning I had no updates for abt.2h.!!! Could be my PC...
From time to time it looks to be working perfect, but then it gets som hiccup..
But this is WAY better than nothing and it will most likely improve through the years coming. Way to go ITC.

The three in front are in fact "all in the lead" right now if one take into consideration the starting time difference of one hour between Lance and Jeff on one side ande Kjetil on the other end. If you know what I mean. So with the 24 coming up sometime soon, they will be in exactly the same position (time wise) when they finish their 24 lay over. How exciting is that??? :D
