Ophir Checkpoint #1

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

This is the first time I've splurged on the Insider. My sweet hubby finally told me to just hush and give up the 20 bucks. It has been so worth it - I wish everyone had access... :|

Maybe some day DC, I would definitely pay the twenty if I had that speed! Can you remember anything Hugh had to say on there or was it just a shot of him?

Well, I had Paul in first place in my top ten picks, but Hugh is a surprise to me.

Hey Di,
He mostly talked about the dogs, pointing out that he's mostly got two "families" running and he thinks they work together better that way. Commentator made a joke that not all families work very well together. He also made a point of saying he had a 19 month old pair of sibling s he thought he'd try because Lance did so well with some young dogs last year.

In another he revealed he wants to 24 at Ruby, where he has a more "spiritual connection" to the landmarks. That's our Hugh!

Man oh man....my Hugh Karma is way off this year...

Had him second in the quest before his dad passed away....left him out of the I'rod TTP, thought he would still be a bit down...oh well, still lots of tundra to be trodden...

Go Hugh...do it for dad.!!

Every year I bump Hugh up a few places in my picks, but I never expected this, either! I hope that wouldn't hurt his feelings... I just always assumed he was enjoying the experience to much to race, but in one of those clips today he admitted "well, it is a race..."

Wow Ken and Ed both still have 16 dogs and are out of Ophir! Very interesting indeed!
