24's

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Can a musher declare, then change their mind and move on?

never been sure how that works. most the time you can tell as they declare and theres a definte im stopping, almost relief in thier voice as they say it, other times they declare...but im not sure how long im staying, might 8 might 24. then you know they might pull hook again soon.

Hi all, I'm sneeking a peak at work...

Yes a musher can declare and then change his/her mind. What is important here is that a musher must declare their 24 on arrival to the checkpoint. In other words, they can't roll in, stay for a few hours and then decide "Oh what the heck, let's go ahead and do our 24." That is why you will see mushers go ahead and declare even if they aren't sure if they are staying.

did that make sense?

I posted the "F24" picks on the 24 picking thread...
While it looks perfect in the preview...it didn't come out to well :o

Each line has 2 peoples picks...
You should be able to figure out if your picks are right...
If Gebhardt 24's now,,,a lot of us will be out of the running
If you have questions let me know!!

William Hanes is the first to have completed the 24, in Nikolai.
