Thread: Who's the Leader?

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

MotorWerk said Jeff is only 10 miles behind so your theory is right......that's alot of catching up he's done  Poor Lance having to deal with so many different problems all at once...might just cost Lance the race :( Unless Lance can kick on the afterburners....slim chance though.....wonder how Kjetil is doing...the trail time is 6 hours for a good run.....Hmmmm getting more interesting with each CP :D :D

As far as I can tell Kjetil, Mitch and Ed are about 40 miles behind Lance on the trail at the moment. Only an estimate, though, I don't completely trust the gps map.

just saw this in an article talking about the distance of the race, and got a laugh from this bit:
"Clearly, too, the technology isn't foolproof. Along with recording distances, the GPS is also supposed to report the speed mushers are traveling along the trail.

Early in the race, it reported one of them traveling 93 mph."

have to agree with this- i keep seeing speeds of drivers on the trail as anything from 0 (very often!) to 15 mph, which makes more sense. i can't believe that so many would be stopped at the same time, so i figured the GPS is screwy.
