Light a Candle

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Light a Candle

Postby mamamia » Fri Mar 07, 2008 9:52 pm

This has been mentioned in a couple of threads but I wanted to bring this into a thread of is own so it won't get lost.

This is for those of us who want to bring a little of our spirituality to the race. You can light a candle and send your prayers/vibes/good thoughts/love out to the race. I started a group for us called Idita and Luvmy4huskiesn1mal started one for Snickers called snick.

Click on the group link, scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the search link. On the next page type the group name in search box. To light your candle click on one that is not lit and follow the path.

The candles stay lit for only 48 hours so you will need to return and light another candle every couple of days.

our lantern has been burning non stop since the restart! on our second BIG bottle of lamp oil. we have red lantern with 'good luck all mushers and dogs, happy and healthy to nome' then 'iditarod 36' on it..gonna start a new tradition and add to it each year with the year and winner.

I like that idea! I'm going to be on the lookout for a red lantern to buy for next year.

I'll still post for all and any on the original Idita group - there's strength in numbers. Remember the flame lasts only 48 hours, so you may want to renew until the lantern goes out.

How do you tell the difference between a plumber and a chemist? Ask them to pronounce unionized. -
