This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Two last updates on Lance shows 3 miles/h and the one before that was 5.
Has he reached the point where the dogs says stop.... or is it the GPS thats misleading us.
Edit: Looks like it's stop...

Yes, I wonder if this might be a terrible run for Lance? He has just snailed forward at between 5 and 3mph (at least on the GPS), and he did not post a fast time Ruby-Galena... Hope he and his dogs are ok!

He is now resting between checkpoints. I think the 3mph speed was just when he slowed down for the rest. The next update showed him in exact the same spot, resting.

Lance's temperature gauge also shows about 8 degrees warmer than Jeffs. Where is that colder weather!?!?

I'm thinking the terrain to Nulato might be a little tough or at least slower. Lance, Jeff and now Mitch are all out of Galena and none of them are going faster than 6 mph.

Tanglefoot,
Wet snow is a good guess. It's slow going whatever it is. I hope it doesn't tire everyone out too much!

King and Iten still running 16 dogs. That extra dog-power should be a help on the jump over to UNK -- then Iten, and Baker and Uncle Louis get "home field advantage"
