Kaltag cp. #1

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Wonder if Backen and Gatt still are travelling together? They joined between Ruby and Nulato, I think.

Guess they both have gained advantage by eating Yukon miles together.

Kjetil is in Kaltag according to GPS. About Gatt we won't know until ITC updates and that might take some time :D

Mackey is resting it seems, anyone who knows for how long?

So we have Mackey going straight through Kaltag but seems to be currently resting on the trail about 23 miles out. King is on the move after 4h 19m rest.

EDIT - I'll translate another post, this one will only be to confuse. Have to do the translations first.

Mackey is resting at Tripod Cabin:

From hurdal.com:

KALTAG
(Trude/Kaltag checkpoint, 9.50 pm) Lance Mackey arrived at Kaltag appr. 9.30 pm with 14 dogs. That means it has taken him some 6 hrs and 40 minutes to run the 42 mile long route from Nulato.

Mackey has had a very slow run, and said that he had taken time to rest and snack the dogs just outside Nulato as he had mistaken the checkpoint for being further up the trail. His dogs looked good, but it remains to see if he will be able to keep his lead on King, who is due in to Kaltag shortly.

MACKEY PASSING THROUGH KALTAG
(Trude/Kaltag cp)
Lance Mackey picked up straw in Kantag and headed out of CP. He is supposed to camp at Tripod Cabin ca. 30 miles after Kaltag. King might not buy that information, but at least this brings the excitement to a higher level!
