Pics from the Burled ARch!

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Well, guess what...Gate keeper just walked in and we had a good talk for about an hour! She is very busy volunteering fo ITC, and me...I'm just a tourist/fan enjoying the atmosphere of this exciting adventure! Here's a pic of me and Gate Keeper:

Here are more I took yesterday.

The chute is actually like a platform of snow. the snow is built up about 3-4 feet high (you can't really tell from this vantage), such that the mushers will be driving up onto this Platform of Snow. guess so that fans will have a better view. It will be like, you know, them models walking on their show platforms!

I'll post more when i get a chance (hand in there lance!).

Gate's place here in Nome is just yards from the Arch. This is looking toward the northwest from the far end of the chute.

You can see Nanuq there on the right, on the side of the pastel colored building. He'll be greeting Lance tonite!
