Well, I just took a short ride out of Nome toward the east about 2 miles. WEATHER: mostly cloudy, warmish (maybe 15 above F), and light north wind about 5-10 mph. Really good conditions and good trail conditions. FRONT STREET TRAIL CONDITIONS: the authorities that be have set out a really good layer (close to a foot high) of snow right on Front Street. The mushers will be going up a slope from the Bering Sea ice and onto the Nome-Council Road roughly about a mile and a half from the finish line. they did not lay out fresh snow on the road between there and the start of Front Street. The east end of Front Street starts just about a half mile from the finish. All along this street (which is continuous from the Council Road) has that new layer of snow. Also, the mushers will be entertained with Christmas lights as they make their way down this famed gold town street (they say there are still gold coins/dust/nuggets) still buried under this street (but don't tell anyone okay?).
This was taken just an hour ago looking from the start of Front Street, eastside toward the west!
The "platform" is actually a high snowbank the authorities that be put in the other day. GOLANCEGO will be entering this in less than 3 hours!!!!
