REPORT FRoM FRONT sTReeT!

Postby Frozen Chosen » Wed Mar 12, 2008 12:22 am

Well, I just took a short ride out of Nome toward the east about 2 miles. WEATHER: mostly cloudy, warmish (maybe 15 above F), and light north wind about 5-10 mph. Really good conditions and good trail conditions. FRONT STREET TRAIL CONDITIONS: the authorities that be have set out a really good layer (close to a foot high) of snow right on Front Street. The mushers will be going up a slope from the Bering Sea ice and onto the Nome-Council Road roughly about a mile and a half from the finish line. they did not lay out fresh snow on the road between there and the start of Front Street. The east end of Front Street starts just about a half mile from the finish. All along this street (which is continuous from the Council Road) has that new layer of snow. Also, the mushers will be entertained with Christmas lights as they make their way down this famed gold town street (they say there are still gold coins/dust/nuggets) still buried under this street (but don't tell anyone okay?).

This was taken just an hour ago looking from the start of Front Street, eastside toward the west!

The "platform" is actually a high snowbank the authorities that be put in the other day. GOLANCEGO will be entering this in less than 3 hours!!!!

John, I met the crew today at Howard Farley's talk at the Museum. You all should have been here to hear Howard's Tales of oLD! the BSSd crew happened to be there with D. hargraves and I walked up to the GCI offices there with them. met the famed Mia (spelled correctly?) and gave the kids a good pep talk to KEEP UP THE GOOODDDD WWOORRRKKK, as there are hundreds, if not thousands from Tangles Uk, Sulds Norway, Fladog from the 90F heat down dare, Heidi from Tx, etc. Mentioned many of you to let them know how dependent we are and that THESE KIDS have turned the tables and ARE EEEDDDUUUCAtiNg us oldies!!

Thanks Johnc and BSSd crew.

Thanks to all of you for holding down the fort during the night.

Frozen, your photos of Nome :D :D :D :D :D are beautiful, thank you for the first hand reports. Sounds like you've met some other fans from Florida, some day maybe it will be me

If I had to choose which city to visit during race, I think Nome would be my choice, because the excitment lasts for days :!:
edit to add; Unalakleet would have to be visited also, their excitment starts earlier and lasts and lasts! How is Unk set up for tourists, anyone know??

It's 5am Florida time,temp is 62F, coffee's brewing and it's good to be here with my Iditabuddies. :D :D :D
