Manley Hot Spring-Tanana-Ruby

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

There are two ways to approach this run from Tanana to Ruby. Break it up into 2 runs or break it up into 3 runs (3 ways if you count running straight through). It looks like Pete Kaiser has opted for the 3 run strategy. He stopped at race mile 270, 43 miles from Tanana after running for 5h 5m. This is consistent with his run/rest pattern to date. He has been running approx 4 hours and resting less 3h 40m to 4h 30m. So running short, resting short. He left in 3rd and so far everyone is passing him showing no inclination to stop. The only problem I see is that if he follows this pattern he will rest from 6:10 to about 9:45 then start running as the temps rise. It is supposed to get warmer out on the trail today.

mamamia wrote:Just a heads up. There is an active Bible camp about 64 miles from Tanana. I don't know if they are offering hospitality to the mushers but it would be a nice place to stop to break the run up into two runs. Does anyone remember if they offered hospitality in 2015? Look for mass stopping around mile 291.

That's a really interesting bit of info. Thanks Mamamia. :)

Wade is at mile 285 - Dallas and Mitch at 284. So they're just 6 and 7 miles away from the Bible camp. Be interesting to see if there is a mass stopping - not long to wait.

It looks like Wade and Dallas have stopped to rest. It hasn't been long enough yet to tell if this is a break or a camp but they are are at mile 285. Mitch is there but hasn't stopped yet. Jeff has stopped and looks like he is going with 3 runs.

I looked at the forecast, it doesn't seem like it will be too big problem to run during day.

Aliy and Joar seems to be resting together. Michelle just joined them. Pete is about to pass them.

Perhaps this is the site for the Bible camp? 286? Four or five mushers rest there at the moment.

In the front Nicolas has been resting for half an hour, Pete might catch up on him in some time.

Dallas is shown as resting, he passed the 286 gang, not by much.

Pete will pass Nicolas in two miles.
