Manley Hot Spring-Tanana-Ruby

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I think you are right:) It's was really really cold. Hmmm, didn't check the stat sheet for that....well, from what you have transcribed, and thank you from my heart for that, and other info I have gleaned, that trail into Manley was cold and most ran pretty much straight through...so dropping dogs sounds like it may be strategy for the river? More snow? Colder, need more control, ect ect? Maybe? It's hard to tell on newer trails. Hoping that helps even things out a bit, but doubt it  ;) I still believe Aliy can do it though :D  ;) It's gonna be interesting to see who is where after their 24's ;) Anyone from the back of the lineup, that can hold onto a front position is in a prime spot :D One storm...or one thing goes wrong, and the race can change still, I hope!

Catching up on videos. Coming into Manley I was interested to see Nicks dogs after that monster run of his. They looked pretty good. They were on their feet barking to go at the check in. After running about 120 miles with little rest he rested 4.5 hours about 30 miles outside of Manley. It seems that despite the huge distance he ran the dogs recovered nicely with that rest.

I was just thinking exactly the same thing - they were crazy-dogs, same as Martin's team.

How long before all that exuberance dries up?

I was wondering the same thing, about both of them.

A bunch of others have left. But take a look at Nic Petits gps tracker. Looks like he is stuck just out of Natana. I thought it was just a glitch, but it seems to be updating now...

John Baker also at 234. Speed 8.3 mph. Aliy speed is 8.5. Not much in it so I wonder who is overtaking who?
