Speaking of 'bugs', I hope that Otto was no longer contagious when he ran the Ceremonial Start. Probably not because of the medical care he received.

I never heard what his "personal health issue" was. What have you heard?

Per FB re Otto Balogh:

"Unfortunately Otto got a serious sickness, with high fever. This started 12 days ago. 1 hour long cold chills, pulse 112/min. He was unable to recover until the ceremonial start - he had to perform that under this sickness."

Just a heads up. There is an active Bible camp about 64 miles from Tanana. I don't know if they are offering hospitality to the mushers but it would be a nice place to stop to break the run up into two runs. Does anyone remember if they offered hospitality in 2015? Look for mass stopping around mile 291.

That sounds nasty! If it started 12 days ago he was probably not contageous but just extremely debilitated. Bless his heart. To come this far and then be taken out by by something like that.

Maybe didn't want to disappoint his Idita-rider.

And didn't want to miss the party. Maybe he felt he could handle 11 miles but not 1000.

Dallas and Wade seem to be having some fun on the trail. They left Tanana at the same time with Wade in the lead. Then Dallas took the lead. Then Wade took the lead back and Dallas skipped his regularly scheduled every-two-hour dog rotation. Now with the way the trackers report it is impossible to know if this is what is really going on but it looks good on paper. 8-)
