Layovers?

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I'm not able to find anything about this. I guess this is something that might have been said on the meetings/banquets. But if the rule applies, Huslia is not eligible for 8hours mandatory rest, it's quite far away from Yukon.. and they already have more options than usual.

I don't know.

It seems to me that many who took 8 in Tanana had plans to take 24 in Huslia or Galena, but choosed Galena. That's of course only guessing.

I don't think they can man 8 in Huslia :? unless ITC changed something, it says ON THE YUKON....Huslia is far from the Yukon....as far as I can remember, it was NOT allowed in 2015.....

Here is the rule for 2017 on the Yukon man 8, from ITC

Eight Hour Mandatory Stops: In addition to the mandatory twenty-four (24) hour stop, a musher must take one eight (8) hour stop on the Yukon River, including Shageluk in odd numbered years, and one eight (8) hour stop at White Mountain.

Someone better tell him ;)

One of us posted the question to the ITC on their facebook page (sorry I forget who) and they responded that the 8 can be taken anywhere between Tanana to Kaltag. So that clears that up.

So the rule doesn't seem clear, but what Jen Seavey posted was correct. That was me who asked. :D

I does seem odd since the original rule states "8 to be taken on the Yukon". But whatever...

Thanks.

The rules isn't written for this route so they must do so with adjustments. It's way easier to just say Tanana to Kaltag than saying it must be on the river..
