Huslia-Koyukuk-Nulato

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

All is not as it seems... Something to think about

Until all the teams have taken both their 24 hour layover and their Yukon 8 the idea who is in what place is still a little unclear. The front runners -Wade, Dallas, Joar, Mitch, and Pete have not taken their Mandatory 8. Nicolas has. Those that haven't taken their man 8 are giving a 4 hour advantage to the ones following that have taken their 8. The ones that have yet to take their 8 will time it to coincide with a regularly scheduled 4 hour rest and have to stay an extra 4 hours. During that time those following will have 4 hours to catch up with them. So Nic is actually 4 hours closer to Wade than it seems by just looking at the tracker.

Yes, but often those 4 hour stops can extend a bit ...and the ones on their 8's can then have a better rested team.

Yep. Rest equals speed and those that have already taken their 8's took them a long time ago. An 8 in Kaltag can be very beneficial on the coast.

So it is as clear as mud

To be honest, I'm looking forward to they're past Kaltag, hoping it gets less confusing. It screws up my mind trying to figure out all the different issues. Later long rest, 24 before 8bor the other way? Who is where and just have to check which rests a specific musher has. :o  :?

Still, I think it's been really fun to watch this far, in my mind, this race is completely open.
