Unalakleet - Shaktoolik - Koyuk

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I think Aily's team looked pretty perky coming into Shaktoolik on the video.

They haven't been the same team since. With only a few Iditarods under his belt he is still fairly new at this snd that is a mistake I have seen many, many elite mushers make. It seems like something they all need to learn the hard way.

Yeah, I just wanted him to do well THIS year so bad. Recently I've been paying more attention to interviews and articles about him and I like him. I was happy to see him finally get a decent sponsor ($$$-wise) too. I hope he learns from his mistakes and comes back next year with new resolve.

I was really rooting for him too Heidi. There is something about him that is really likable. He did really well for most of the race. I'm sure he will sit down with Lance for a post race analysis and figure it out.

Speaking of Jason - he's currently taking a leaf out of the front-runner playbook and resting at the shelter cabin after Shak.

And here's the rest of the parade going across Norton Sound:

Thanks Mama, I was wondering what happened to him. I have company and can't follow quite as close as I would like to. ;)

Vid of Aliy in Shak - very upbeat - she's laughing throughout this interview:

I thought I had pretty good run times, all excited, got to the top of the hill - woo hoo - have a little party, come down, go across the lagoon, come in to Shak and... apparently it's not as fast as the rest of 'em <laughs>. So I'm happy with my run time but.. um... the stat sheet does not lie <laughs>

Q: when was the last time you were in Shak and it was bluebird sky?

OH MY GOSH! Like - 200 years ago maybe? Last year it was breezy but I didn't stay here because I was on the pack ice. The year before it was REALLY breezy. I've spent 28 hours here before - but look at it <looks around, waves her arms> ...spectacular... not sure I want to leave. There's *bathrooms" <spoken in terms of it being a miracle>, friendly people, the people of Shak rock! <she grins at someone off camera> don't they? cumhere! <grabs child and squeezes him/her in a hug, repeating "the people of Shak rock">

Q: asks about goals?

You know, let's just finish out this race on a positive note. Making this up right now... hmmm... "positive note"... hmm, <sighs> I like my team, I wouldn't trade them for the world, hmm, getting emotional <voice starts to wobble>... I like the ID - uh, don't record that <puts hand over camera, laughing>.

This interview is worth listening to - you get much more out of hearing her than me typing here.

Also the one with Jessie in WM - I'll try to transcribe a little later.
