Unalakleet - Shaktoolik - Koyuk

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Looking at the rookie race- they are showing Robert doing better that 9mph from Shak to Koyuk, and Sebastien a little better than 6mph, and about 5 hours separate them. Can Robert catch him? Thoughts, and yes, I've got Robert as my ROTY. :D

200 miles / 9 mph = 22.2 hours
200 miles / 8 mph = 25 hours
200 miles / 7 mph = 28.6 hours
200 miles / 6 mph = 33.3 hours

So he'd have to stay consistently 2 mph faster than Sebastien.

Yeah, I did the math, just wondering what's going on with the speed difference. Robert has 2 more dogs, so maybe Seb is running a bit more conservatively. Still, 9mph is moving right along.
