Race in the races

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Race in the races

Postby mira » Mon Mar 13, 2017 11:26 am

As we focus on the front there are still many more mushers.

Ellen Halvorsen is resting in Huslia. Cindy Abbott is resting on trail to Koyukuk. Cindy left Huslia after 10 hours rest at the same time as Ellen arrived.

Before the two ladies we have four rookies.

By the way, the best placed rookie is Sebastian Vergnaud currently in 12th place. Robert Redington is 22th place as the next. Sebastian just left Unalakleet, Robert is in Unalakleet

I don't think anyone saw that coming - especially when he showed up to the start line with only 12 dogs.
That's a pretty cool accomplishment.

Putting this here, for want of a more appropriate location:

This was the field at 11:45 am (race time) Monday:

Yes. It's interesting to see where he will be in the end. Of course he has less leeway in case of bad stuff on the dogs, but it is very interesting.

I had him as my ROTY and then switched last minute to Ryan Anderson

Looks like we have a race for ROTY - Sebastien and Robert Red are only 16 minutes apart into WM - and Robert appears to have considerably more speed (he ran from Elim in 6.5 hours, Sebastien took nearly 8).

Indeed, I think Robert has the advantage here but we'll see

ROTY Robert Red has gotten past Sebastien, and is 4 miles ahead coming down to the blowhole (?) before Safety.
