Nome finish line

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Someone is in the chute when I turned in on. Going by race standings it could be Noah Burmeister.
And they're gone.

WOW another siren sounding.
Chute looking cold and empty, a couple of people walking outside of the chute.

Edit: time 3:05am a few folks in chute, quiet talking, some outside of chute too.

OK checking race standings again (only a few minutes since first check) now Noah, Cody and Ketil Reitan are listed as already in Nome.

So next up is MARTIN!!! He was last out of Safety.

3:08am, now lots of people there (did I hear Aliy's voice?) or someone sounding very much like her

A bunch of folks getting pic taken in front of Arch.

3:11 I see lights at end of street...false alarm, just a car turning

3:12 cheering "Hello Nome", announcer talking about Martin as he comes down Front ST. more cheering

3:15am crosses line think with 9 dogs. I counted wrong, left Safety with 11.
Martin got something out of sled, goes to dogs, kneels, takes the bib off, he had small bowls (small squares) and each dog gets one, friends helping hand them out to dogs, he's up. I've lost him in the crowd. Shoulda left that bib on Martin. 4 people standing behind sled, everyone else around dogs. Dogs wearing orange coats. Martin back to sled, checking stuff, laughing heard, maybe from Martin, at least 3-4 dozen people in the chute,

3:27, the official welcome!!

I'm glad to see so many people out at this early hour to welcome him. Dogs barking to go and they are gone, 2 people riding on sled runners. Man, when a sled heads to the dog yard they don't waste time leaving the chute!

3:30 am and then the chute is empty. And all is quiet.
All my children have four feet and fur.

...and in..

Fun to watch in the chute.. the dogs seems to be playing around, he feeds them with the bowls.. A decent crowd, considered time of day (or should I say night)...
