What happened to Jodi Bailey?

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. What happened to Jodi Bailey?

Postby txbennett » Thu Mar 16, 2017 9:05 am

13 hrs 39mins from Elim to White Mountain and now has overstayed her 8 hour rest in White Mountain.

Allen Moore caught her and then accompanied her to White Mountain.

oooh that doesn't sound good. At least they made it to WM. Hopefully it is nothing more than leader problems. We all know that on the coast it doesn't matter how good your team is if you don't have an experienced and confident leader.

I suspect that—like many teams have been reporting—her dogs got some kind of crud.

Looking at her blog, she'd been racing well earlier in the season and I expected her to finish higher, so can only imagine it was something out of her control.

Larry is the next musher behind her - by about six hours, so she has no reason to bust out of WM on the dot - she can rest the dogs longer and take her time.

Uh edited to correct - Larry left Elim six hours behind her arrival at WM... so he still isn't in WM yet... so she could - in theory - wait another 8-10 hours?

It isn't that uncommon that the teams in the backpack overstay 8 hours in WM.. and she has plenty of time...It's probably wise to get some extra rest..
