Trip to Iditarod 2018 - any one for meeting up?

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I have just booked it. Can't quite believe it. I'll be there! :D :D :D

Anyone else going to make it this year? Can we do coffee in Anchorage?

That's so awesome!! You'll have to report into us if you're able. :D I don't currently know of any other 'buds going, but I think you'll make fast friends with whoever is there! Are you going to volunteer?

Thanks tx! It will be amazing to be there and meet other 'buds and hopefully do some volunteering.

Organising some serious cold weather clothing from Tangles' shop. Happy to keep posting while there :D

Thank you fdf!

Arriving a few days before the start to get any necessary volunteer training and to get over the jet lag . . . .

Will be around for the finish but not sure if I'll make Nome. Depends on volunteer duties.

So. . . . I will be at Iditarod 2018 . . . . very, very excited :D :D :D

With the hotel fire in Nome that may not be as hospitable this year as before.

I have always thought that if I ever had the chance (not likely) Takotna during some team's 24-hour break would be nice, if possible, or Unalakleet as the teams come through. Unk may have an interesting volunteer possibility helping with tending to dropped dogs. If that may interest you let ITC know that would be your preference and they may be able to assist you in making and/or providing assistance with accommodations.

However it works out your primary responsibility is to enjoy yourself and have fun!

Thanks tx. I had not thought about that. You got me wondering now.

Yes - part of the wonderfulness of all this is it will be a once in a lifetime visit. So I want to do everything. But if I do everything I'll be too tired to enjoy it!

Guess I need to start thinking in terms of my own run/rest schedule. But I really like the idea of Takotna. And Unalakleet. :D :D

Great news!!! You will have to keep us "in the loop". I still have one of Tangles, "North Cerney to Nome" t-shirts, and had hoped to handle for him when he was there, but time moves on. Still think Em's will do well in Poland. I also had hoped to make it this coming year, but, not going to happen. I would definitely look back in the forum on posts from previous buds, who have gone, there is some great info there.
Proud PaPa of the triplet litter; Aidan (B), Bailey (G), and Cameron (B). Cameron is on top in picture; Bailey, of course, is the bowhead!!
