Iditarod 2018 discussion

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Since I posted here about it, I've checked to see what others chose and I think Tanglefoot might be in the running - I'm not even sure of the rules. All I know is that the stakes are high. :)

I think Braider will have it ;)

(the time is the tie-breaker, is it not? it's the Musher who's the important part).

This was definitely too close - Moose encounter:

Rob looks very cool about it - while his lead dogs (Maddie and ??) are all "Look!! Look! Over there!"

Doing the math for after 24's is mind boggling

It isn't that hard, but if anyone wants other rules I'm fine :) But I want rules that makes everything counts a bit, but if two have chosed correct checkpoint and musher the time will act as an tie breaker. We could of course discuss if the time always should be a tie-breaker but I think it should count to be close on time..

Mira... That was not meant as criticism - the rules are all fine, in fact, I wasn't even referring to 'furthest to 24'. What I was considering boggling is that nothing much can be figured until all the leaders have their 24's finished.
Burmeister and Petit have left with their 24's finished.

Ah, thanks.. and yes it is :) And I think it's fun, but it's complicated :)

But at least.. this year we don't have a mix of Yukon 8 hour rest and the 24 hour rest like last year, then I gave up the whole computation thing. People taking 8h before 24h and totally chaos.

Jakes article in ADN were a great way to do it, he took the first place someone in the top took 24h (McGrath) and just adjust for the starting bib.

Is that the one where they flipped forward and hit the sled handlebar? Looked pretty painful  No idea who though...
