Norwegian races, Finnmarksløpet

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Kale Casey just said Dallas is having dog diarrhea problems too, so he's slowed down the team and gone into maintenance mode. Don't quote me on that, but it'll be available on the replay of Ramey and Travis finishes.

Sorry to read about Thomas Waerner. Wasn't he ROTY the year he ran the race? Always wished he'd be back. The Norwegian teams really bring something extra special to the race. Wishing all the dogs a speedy recovery.

Kasin scratched at Varangerbotn :(

Too many scratches.

Petter Karlsson is in front, Birgitte and Dallas quite close but with two different strategies, Dallas has rested twice, Birgitte once.

Dallas from Levajok as number three, all in front rested for six hours so they must take at least four hours in Karasjok. Estimate finish is earlier than my prediction it seems, I will guess afternoon east coast time, 3pm. Easier to tell when we know when they leave for the last leg

Christian mentioned in an interview that the warm weather spell took a toll on Dallas's team and that's why he's down so many dogs and can't go quite as fast.

Ralph Johannessen is hanging in there too. Go Ralph!

Yes, the weather has been strange this year. Usually Finnmark gets the low temperatures, but this winter it's been coldest in South and warmer in North. Right now it's -30 celsius/-22F in Karasjok.

Last year the winner used 10 hours from Karasjok, and he is due to leave now in two minutes. That will be ETA of 17-18 Norwegian time, noon East Coast time.

...and the leader stayed for one more hour, he just left. 10 hours from this post then (19 in Norway, 2pm East Coast).

And we all know that this isn't very exact times.

Birgitte is leaving Karasjok now, 1 hour 13 min. after Petter Karlsson. Dallas is due to leave in about 25 min.

Dallas before leaving Karasjok: https://www.facebook.com/finnmarkslopet ... 994943456/

And Ralph Johannessen has scratched in Levajok. :(

Not another one.

There is more than 50% scratches this year. Have you seen any reason for Marit or Ralph scratches?

Edit, FL added it was diarrhea on dogs for Ralph
