COMPUTER SECURITY DURING IDITAROD

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. COMPUTER SECURITY DURING IDITAROD

Postby txbennett » Sat Mar 03, 2018 5:55 am

Every year during Iditarod I seem to get a computer bug or two while jumping around from site-to-site and page-to-page seeking information and having fun while enjoying the race. This year seems to be ripe for malware with all the "controversies" being bandied about.

I now plan to update and run all of my computer security programs, back up my files to an external source, run windows update, etc. -- then reboot to a "clean" start (as clean as I can make it).

I will attempt to avoid unknown sources and "stories" posted by unknown sources no matter how tantalizing and inviting the "headline" may be.

That sound like a very good idea and something that should be done on all times!

I have that problem also tx, every year so my DH says. so this year he took my computer to a friend who fixes these things and he said it was clean, so if I get something now I'll know it came from following the race. ;)
All my children have four feet and fur.

The worst I had it is the one year when the one Iditarod Rookie (he scratched his rookie year though) went over and did real well in a Russian dogsled race - I got the big bad virus trying to click all over the Russian websites finding information on that race!

WATCH OUT for click bait trolls with enticing captions and/or photos. I think there may be even more trolling with malware this year by some anti-dog-racing fanatics targeting dog-race-fans.
