This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Definitely. He seemed undecided and kept looking at the team - maybe checking to see if they were lying down, or lunging?

Just a quick fyi, Elsietee... Eskil's away for national guard training for 2 weeks. Talk about terrible timing, huh? :(

Yeah - guess when he found out how the competition was doing, he saw his team was up to the challenge enough to gain significant time on everyone else - and to be worth it to make that move. Hope it works for him. I'm all Aliy but sounds like she's not feeling very well. Too bad because that team was so strong on the YQ.
So - go Joar! I'll be glad when the 24s are finished.

That *is* bad timing. He's going to be super-bummed if Joar pulls this off.

Joar is currently at 400 miles (32 miles from ID), 6.9 mph, so another 4.5 hours to go. He's been travelling for 5.5 hours.

* * *

The trail between Nik and McG seems to have set up more - mushers seem to be travelling at 7-8 mph, compared with 6 and below yesterday of the front-runners.

From radar, looks like snow is going to hit Iditarod pretty soon (5:30-6 pm AK). Joar should be okay, though it won't be fun. But Lars is in for it. Wind is going to pick up in front of that snow.

Joar at 415, so 17 miles to go. His speed is down to 5.4 mph, so if that continues, it'll be another 2-3 hours before he's there. He's been travelling for coming up on 8 hours now.

32 in McGrath and 30 in Shag right now. Resting during the day seems to be the good choice!
