Yukon to Kaltag (Shageluk - Kaltag)

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Actually, I'm not concerned about that. I might be mistaken but I think that the back of the pack is much closer to the rest of the field now. The last years there hasn't been any red lantern banquet.

Steve has not done his 8. But does he know that?

I talked with Mark Nordman, a race official, about Tara and the team this morning.

Tara and the dogs are safe.
Reports are the dogs look good. Their weather is calm and warm (~32°F). There is 10+ inches of warm, wet, oatmeal-like snow.

The trail sweeps (snow machines pulling sleds) for Iditarod are currently headed from Grayling to Kaltag and will pack down the trail for Tara and Steve. Anja Radano's husband, Pete, is one of Trail sweeps, so I'm sure Tara will be relieved to see another friendly face.

Once they arrive in Kaltag, they can rest & assess. That is relieving news

the last year for a RL banquet was 2009, I think. I had purposely gone later in the race in 2010 to go to the RL banquet. Was that the first year they made a musher drop out? He would have been RL and ITC doesn't have money to spend???
