This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

We have just had word from Allen in Grayling. Firstly, the dogs are great. It is Allen himself that is not well.
Allen woke up from his nap with a high fever and turns out he has picked up an infection. He has been in contact with his daughters Bridgett and Jennifer who are both a nurses and they, in turn, have been in contact with the health aides and veterinarians in Grayling. He has been given appropriate antibiotics to treat it and he is going to wait around 24 hours in Grayling to allow the medicine to kick in before he makes any further moves.
He is physically able to care for the dogs and has said he has plenty of food and supplies to stay that long. He will feed them every six hours while they are there and they will be just fine.
He said he’s feeling okay but this is a really sensible call to stay put for a while as things can quickly head south with infections. We will keep in touch with him and see how he’s feeling and what the next steps are. We’ll update you when there is something to share.
Aliy will be appraised of the situation as soon as possible.
