UNK TO SHAK to Koyuk

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

In the same way that Joars choice to go to Iditarod may have cost him the race, Nic’s mistake on the trail may have cost him the race.

The question is does J know that Nic made that mistake? Or is the trail sufficiently icy/Blown over that The lack of tracks has no meaning to him? ( right up to when he arrives in Koyuk and he’s told he’s in the lead :-) )

That’s the video I want to see :-)

Heister and Lee said they were trying to do live feed from K, but it was very spotty and would go up and down. So to keep an eye on it and see how it went, but they will do their best.

Yeah - I've been thinking the same. Kind of an odd feeling too and I don't know why. I sort of doubt Joar knows anything about what happened to Nic - FAA cams show not-good ground visibility right now. As to tracks, no idea. Yeah - the look on Joar's face may be priceless at Koyuk. He be hittin' the reset button :)

Mitch is coming up to the spot where the track is dividing any moment now. Will be interesting to see if he goes right or left.

Well, this is iditarod, anything might happen!

It looks like Mitch goes down the right trail.

Who says traveling at less than 10 MPH for a 1000 miles isn't exciting??
I'm sure that Joar didn't want to take the lead like this, but he'll get over it :)

Indeed, I wonder how much this will change the race.

It wasn't the way I wanted Joar to pass him, but finding the trail is a part of the game.

Remember the epic detour two years ago? All the way back to Yentna?

Here's the update from ADN: https://www.adn.com/outdoors-adventure/ ... arod-lead/

I'm just heartbroken for Nic. Although part of me thinks it would be so cool if Joar won the Iditarod and Dallas won the Finnsmarkslopet. It would certainly give us something to talk about with our non-fan friends.

I was hoping either Joar or Nic would beat Mitch, and for a while it looked like they both took a side trail! Agree, don't want to see Joar win (or Nic lose) like that, but it happens. Nic does have an amazing team, and he has caught up a LOT since his "long and winding road" detour.
