WM - Safety - Nome

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I hope Nic does win the speedy to Nome award. Looking forward to years to come.

Actually right now rookie Jessie Holmes is playing that game.

He left Elim behind the group. By the end of the hills he's picked off Linwood, and by the end of Golovin he'd gobbled up Ramey. This morning after leaving WM he overtook Travis - and he now has his sights on Ritchie - and its possible he could catch him too.

He banked lots of rest to achieve that speed, so had to have patience and confidence in his team that they'd pay it back.

oh yeah, I see - out of WM just 8 min behind Beals and < 1 hour behind Diehl. Pretty interesting!

Ooh, even though Jessie Holmes came past Ramey (and Linwood, and Travis), I think Ramey has gotten past Travis (hard to tell, since Ramey's tracker isn't quite updating at the same rate).

Matt also got past Aaron on the approach to WM last night and is staying ahead of him.

They're neck and neck, but I think Ramey is gaining. His speed has stepped up. This is his playground stretch: )

I was going to get someone to do some math... along the lines of: "If they have 20 miles to go, how much faster does Ramey have to go to catch Jessie?"... only everyone's tracker's stopped updating, so I can't even tell where they are. Ramey *seemed* to be ~5 miles behind...

So how much faster does he have to go to catch him?

Just over two miles an hour faster will get Ramey there first! If they were 6 miles between them!
