Withdrawal

So very sorry race is over. Now have to start my morning checking news of crazy politicians instead of who is leading on the trail. Terrible. Great race this year. Maybe I will get some things around the house done. But that is not as much fun.

Noooooo! Don't go there. Just don't do it. I was berating myself for getting hoovered by the race but then I thought, "This will save me time down the road because I've broken that evil news habit." And I swear, I am cured. Thanks for that, Iditarod.

One afternoon last week in chat, somehow the conversation went to maple syrup making. I hope Mira and others across the pond can see this video of a Maine family farm and their production methods.

Check out National Geographic Safari Live. They do a live game drive in Kruger , a sunrise and a sunset drive. Not dogs but wonderful wildlife. Leopards, elephants, lions, lots of birds. Good way to end or start day since race is over

Breeze, thanks for the video about maple syrup.
Very interesting how it's done, a lot of steps and hard work.

I like maple candy after it's set around for awhile, it gets a little crunchy crust on the pieces. yum!

Thanks, Breeze, the video was great. The humidity inside that room must be high... really high :)

Maine Maple Sunday. An annual event, on the 4th Sunday in March. Like many other towns, the day starts in Sebago with a pancake breakfast at the town hall. Maple syrup provided by Ted Greene's sugar shack. (That name familiar, Breeze?) It's a big fund-raiser for the local fire and rescue organization. Ted and others in the area run flexible plastic piping from tree to tree to tree to large collection tanks. Not quite the historic way of doing it, but the maple syrup is just as sweet.

What a good idea about the piping, if the first people to harvest the sap could have used the pipes, bet they would.

Moose, are you going to the pancake breakfast? I hope so.

Sometimes I just go to trackleaders.com and see what race or adventure I can follow. It's not the same, but it helps with withdrawal.
