Yukon Quest Snippets and Links

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

I just caught a tiny snippet in the middle of Rob's FB finish video (kudos to YQ for doing all the finishers) and it sounds like a doozy. Andrew Pace is also referenced. Haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing, but it sounds like a not-to-be-missed one.

Adding the URLs as I manage to get to them:

Andrew Pace:

(great looking dogs)
Talks about going over Eagle (responsible adult brain V. quest brain), about Rob leading them over, about spending 21 hours in 101.

Rob:

(again, great looking dogs - barking to go, tails wagging)
Oh my. That had me bawling. He dropped his best lead dog - Maddie - in Eagle and his handler James bought her and Psycho to the finish to meet them. He said she's 9 1/2 so she's retiring today - this was her last run. And he's crying. And I'm crying. And the onlookers are crying while he gives them hugs and pets (dogs plainly overjoyed to see him).

Cool that Brent showed up at the finish for a bunch of these back markers - along with the mushers from last night.

And more tears talking about the dogs - some who've raced with him since 2011. He's retiring the whole litter (white sibes).

And then talking about working together to get over Eagle Summit. And how well the dogs did - going from marker to marker in white out conditions. How incredible the dogs were. And how much Andy's calm demeanor helped.

Now watching the finish line vids in order:

Deke and Jason finished together:

Funny video (Jason is hilarious). Deke has a ladle story and Jason says the highlight was his 2 year old dogs who "learned to lead between Eagle and here". He lost all but one of his leaders along the way, so had to substitute young dogs who did great.

Learn to lead between Eagle and Fairbanks... well, anyone able to lead that part must have it in them to be amazing leaders.
