Jimmy Lebling also scratched in Dawson. He was running some of Hugh's dogs, as well as some of Scott Jansen's, I think. Don't know if his scratch was related to Olivia's. I'm wondering if Lisbet will scratch also. She is way behind the pack. :(

The Trackleader shows no scratched teams. Wondering why?

The weather this year has been good for the teams, I think. I, too, love that there is a woman in the leading pack of four. Paige is not so far behind the four either.

A quick look at the front-runners this morning with no proper data analysis (I’m still peeking on my phone):

Allen’s gamble seems to still be working.
Brent’s longer rest looks to be keeping his speed up.
Michelle possibly didn’t like what cutting rest did to her dogs and rested longer in Eagle.

Will analyze arrival times etc later.

Today's analysis - this is going off the trackers, so very rough. Anything that was "out of normal range" I've flagged in red.

I was going to try and calculate actual run time between Dawson and Eagle, but with the time difference and the date change, it made my eyes cross, so I didn't.

But then I just looked at it again, and I think it's roughly 24 hours, so looking quickly and rounding off (please, anyone else jump in and do the math, mine is awful. I'm taking the times from: https://www.yukonquest.com/results/2341/checkpoint/2419 and subtracting the times from: https://www.yukonquest.com/results/2341/checkpoint/2420 and then removing the hour's difference (which probably means I did it backwards):

Dawson to Eagle:
Allen: 21:45?
Brent: 23
Michelle: 22.5?
Hans: 23
Paige: 25?
Matt: 23
Denis: 25.5
Ryne: 25

so it would seem that Brent is definitely moving faster and banking more rest. Allen's "speedy" time was due to shaving 2.5 hours of rest, so he was actually 1:15 slower on the trail than Brent. Michelle is running an hour slower. Hans is running about 30 mins slower than Brent (he shaved 30 mins off). Denis' attempt to do the trail in 2-legs didn't work out, and he had to take an extra rest after American Summit, which lost him 2.5 hours.

Suffice to say, anyone gaining/losing time is doing it in minute segments, not big pushes - with the exception of Allen who seems to be willing to gamble more than the others (will this bite him in the long run? Or will he get far enough out in front that his veteran dogs can hold their pace?). Brent is definitely running faster and resting longer than the others which might play in his favor down the trail.

Allen:

THANK YOU! I am not very good at the logs! I knew Allen was out ahead but whenever I look at tracker his speed is slower so this makes sense.

Quick update:

Out of Eagle:
Brent: 4:13 am
Hans: 4:25 am
Michelle: 4:39 am

Brent, Michelle and Hans all appear to have rested 4 hours at Trout Creek.

Peering at the tracker now, I picked a spot on the trail to see how far apart they were and at what time they passed that spot:
Brent: 7:37 pm
Hans: 8:30 pm
Michelle: 8:45 pm

So he has grown his lead from 12 mins/26 mins up to 53 mins/1 hour 8 mins.

Brent left Eagle 52 mins behind Allen, but rested about 1.5 hours longer than Allen did along the trail. Allen is nearly to Slaven's - Brent is 8 miles behind him, travelling at 6 to 8 mph, so depending how long it takes him to do that next 8 miles he's anywhere from an hour to 1.5 hours faster than Allen.

(Edited to update - he pulled into Slavens 1 hour 12 mins after Allen.)

Ah, that's too bad. Her dogs did not have a lot of pep when they arrived in Dawson, so better to stop on a good note. They did good - 500 miles in -40° to 0°F? On home-grown dogs? Not many can say they achieved that. Bravo to her.
