Finger Lake

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Finger Lake

Postby Karyn » Mon Mar 04, 2019 7:26 am

Hi all,

This is Karyn (formerly on the board as durham_NC), and usually in Tutka Bay, AK, these days.

Just a quick shoutout to the Finger Lake checkpoint, because the company I work for (Within the Wild), has the Winterlake lodge right at that checkpoint and it always excites me when the mushers start to arrive. The chefs at the lodge provide their infamous "Mushers Meal" breakfast for the competitors. Plus lots of other goodies. It's always an exciting time for me to watch the webcams, because I get to see my co-workers sometimes! I usually am only at the lodge on the coast (Tutka Bay Lodge), so this it's a special treat to see all the activity during Iditarod days.

I'll be followign along as I have time. I'm traveling to Japan next week, so may miss the final days of the Race! I love seeing old friends in here and remembering all the fun over the years of long nights online in chat rooms, controlling webcams (with spiders on them!) and of course, pre-GPS guesses at whose headlamps are coming into a checkpoint. All the best, dear friends!

Good to see you, Karyn. (Hope it's okay that no matter where you check in from, you'll always be durham_NC to me!) ;)

Hello all.
Hey Karyn, nice knowing you work in Tutka Bay.
I was going to drive to Homer today and spend couple days looking for available apartments for seniors.
Be nice to look across the bay and wave hi :)
I've had relatives that lived in Seldovia, but I've not been there yet.
Hope the traveling is enjoyable
Retired and loving every second of it
