Ophir - Iditarod - Shageluk

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Joar is on his way, currently flying at 9.3 mph. I am very curious about his speed.

Aliy is going steady at 5.5-6 mph, 12 miles to go to Iditarod.
Martin Buser is 6-6.5 mph, 50 miles to go to Iditarod.

He's def going substantially faster than Aliy was.

I've been watching, and Martin and Aliy have been a steady 39-40 miles apart the entire time, so no gains there.

If this weather forecast is right, I guess the ones leaving Ophir now is quite lucky. No precipitation for the next 12 hours or so. Just looked at the cams from Iditarod, it's not snowing. Aliy is just around the corner!

From Aliys interview, the checker welcoming her "are you going through?" she answered with "that's really funny"

The trackers and the colours are playing games with us... Nicolas has been green for much of his stay in Ophir, so perhaps it will be orange now he starts to move?

Looking at Joar speed, I think he should give a huge thank to Martin Buser (and Aliy) for setting up a nice trail for him

Martin has been resting for one hour, Joar is 12 miles behind Martin.

Peter is about 1 mile in front of Nicolas, Jessie R siz miles in front of Peter. All four of them having good speed.
