Scratches

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

What's with Nick Petit? Scratched or not? He's still listed in the standings. But I'm pretty sure I read a FB message from his kennel this morning indicating he opted not to continue.

Update on the Trail:
Nicolas Petit is resting in Nikolai and is still officially in the race, despite reports indicating he has scratched.

Many have made it through McGrath and some are resting in Tokatna, eating the wonderful pie no doubt.

A handful have blasted through Ophir and current leaders Paige Drobny and Michelle Phillips are heading to the official halfway point of Cripple.

Wondering if Nordman persuaded him to wait 24 hours and decide then?

It's amazing what a good sleep will do to your perspective.

Nick Petit is resting at McGrath and standings show he's taken his 24. Looks like he's not scratched. Glad he decided to take 24 and re-assess after some rest.

The 'resting' must have been a snack stop. Nick is running to Takotna at 10.7mph. Great!

Nic will pass quite a few mushers taking their 24 in Takotna. Not enough to get back into the top ten,YET, but with his team's speed he is moving in that direction. The top ten or fifteen out of Ruby will be a good guage. The top ten out of Unalakleet are racing each other for position all the way to Nome!
