Kaltag to Koyuk

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Please pay no attention. It was Jessie going out with Joar, not Pete. Not enough sleep for this person.

Thanks once again, Elsie and Uk Fan...I'm only @ 200 miles as crow flies from front runners, but I'm more in the dark than those that have the tracker...

From Joar’s FB update

Joar & Co. are now on the trail between Kaltag and Unalakleet. Leaving from Kaltag Joar had 10 dogs on the line being lead by Dodge and Fenix. Most unfortunately, earlier today in Eagle Island, Joar had to return Jœger home. He was running in lead - once again - when all of a sudden approaching the checkpoint, Jœger started limbing. It was not a difficult decision to make to send him back home to get spoiled and cared for -- but it was a big loss to the team. Jœger's performance in this race has been nothing short of absolutely outstanding, and Joar is very bummed out that he is not able to have Jœger lead him across the finish line into Nome.
