Mile 718 is a sheltered camping area, but no cabin, just a nice place to rest and set up a run through Unalakleet (20 miles away) to Shaktoolik jumping past Nic for a while. For the racers the only stop for a long rest after Unk is White Mountain -- unless they get "weathered" in and bunched up, which is looking like a possibility!

Old Woman cabin is around 35 miles from Unalakleet https://iditarod.com/about/the-iditarod ... nalakleet/

Unalakleet is showing as mile 737. So the resting point, at 718 is only 19 miles away. Can't find any info on this. Anyone know?

I think of there being three spots to stop - Tripod Flats which I think is about a third of the way to Unk, Old Woman Cabin which is halfway ish, and this location they are stopped 20 miles from Unk.

They said on the videos that Dallas stopped here one of the years he won. Said Unk isnt the greatest spot for the dogs because it isn't very sheltered.

Joar n Jessie are on the move again, after what looked like a 4 hour break.

Joar said in a vid back in Kaltag that he's down on leaders after he had to send Joeger home.

The dog he currently has running in the front of his team, he says is a very happy dog so long as he has food. And then he'll just go straight down the trail. He said the main problem was that the wasn't much trail on the river - Pete Kaiser mentioned that the dogs were trying to jump over the 2 ft snow berms to try and see if the adjacent snowmachine tracks were better, and then they would jump back again. But Joar says now they are on an actual Trail things should go better for him.

Nic rested for 5 hours in Unk and is about 10 miles away now. The trio of Joar, Jesse and Pete are inbound to Unk, with about 5 miles to go.

Well, what do i know? According to Pete's page, that was Old Woman Cabin they were resting at. They have paid much closer attention to numbers, so this is a good synopsis :

Getting interesting flower! The top ten is quite a pattern.

Nic in front, a group of 3 running at 733/2, mitch resting at 718 and another group of 4 resting at 699/701 which is around Old Woman, and Ryan Reddington running at just 3 miles behind that.

So how does that look in gps terms - musher / mile / status/ time gps last updated

Nick 747 Run 5 mins - out of Unk at mile 737

Peter 733 Run 11 mins
Joar 733 Run 7 mins
Jessie R 732 Run 11 mins

Mitch 718 Rest 1 hr 9 mins

Matthew F 701 Rest 1 hr 36 mins
Jessie H 699 Rest 2 hrs 41 mins
Aliy 699 Rest 2 hrs 3 mins
Paige D 699 Run 56 mins ago - speed 0.7 mph

Ryan Reddington 696 Run 3 mins
