Kaltag to Koyuk

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

ITC's proprietary tracker software is cumbersome and not always reliable. Track Leaders software can be adjusted fairly reliably and quickly to reflect actual conditions, as they have done when the Quest reroutes the track due to changing conditions. Another reason ITC should contract their tracker out instead of trying to do it themselves in house.

Pete Kaiser left Koyuk close to half hour ago... after bit over 5 hour "rest". hard to say how much rest, there was quite a bit of ppl and traffic, loud snowmachines driving by near by, etc. Joar will probably give chase...

1. They updated the blue line to reflect the actual trail across the ice. And they are still on it for much of the distance, just further inland. The last part is overland.

2. Mitch stopped about 2/3 of the way across - not good. He's been there for 3.5 hours, so this isn't a snack break. (That said, maybe it's part of the Plan - get more rest in a quiet spot and blow through Koyuk?)

3. In the meantime, Aliy and Jessie H have passed him.

4. Nic is still not moving. Matt H and Travis passed him. Matt F is about to pass him. Note that Travis cut his rest to 2:13 to put himself in that position, so we'll have to see if the gamble pays off.

5. I'm really glad for Lance that the weather has been so warm.

Mitch is now on the move again while Jessie H has now stopped. Too soon to tell if it's a snack break or an actual rest.

(* hoping its a rest so Alit can get ahead of him.)
