Kaltag to Koyuk

Figured I’d include Shak in this section, since some will leap frog Unk and go straight through.

So although they haven’t yet updated the standings, it looks like Joar rested 5 hours, but still only went out two hours behind Nic.

Joar’s speed on this next leg will show if this extra rest paid off, or if he’s in survival mode (race-wise) or not.

I’m a bit confused by Pete’s time, since counting on my fingers I show him as only having rested 7 hours, but I can’t see that basic mistake having occurred.

Could it be to do with the daylight saving time? Comes into effect second sunday in March at 2am. But I can't remember which way it goes. Just a long shot.

Thanks fdf. So would that make the rest time show 8 hours instead of 7? So there's still only 7 hours rest? Eeeeeek - confusion!!!!

Okay - current standings show Pete in at 1648 and out at 0051. Those times are before the daylight savings hour change.

So it looks like 8 hours on the standings.

What it shows as on GPS I can't work out!

Or could it be elsietee being really tired and completely misreading Jessie R’s number to be Pete? <sigh> :)

Please pay no attention. It was Jessie going out with Joar, not Pete. Not enough sleep for this person.

Watching the distance between the mushers:

Nic > 18 miles > Joar/Jessie > 6 miles > Pete > 16 miles > Mitch.

If any of those numbers change it’ll indicate a speed up/slow down.

Edited to add:

Uh, scratch that, neither Joar’s nor Mitch’s trackers have updated in 17/23 mins respectively, so their mileages are not accurate. I’ll watch for them to update and see if I can get a more accurate reading.

Nic - 707 > 18 miles >
Joar - 689
Jessie - 689 > 6 miles >
Pete - 683 > 16 miles >
Mitch - 667

The above trackers had updated to with 2-4 mins, so more accurate.
