White Mountain - Safety - Nome and BOP

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

Pete and Joar in, will be some four hours before Jessie should reach Nome.

Joar were almost 30 minutes faster than Pete from Safety. The winning time were 9d 12h 39m 6s. Last year it was 9d 12h 0m 0s, that's pretty equal for being 9.5 days.

Departing Safety (22 miles to Nome and past the Blow Holes) with a five mile lead is pretty safe both for Aliy holding off Matt and for Matt holding off Travis and/or Paige.

Just watched Jessie come in on the live cam (is that available to non-insiders?) What a gem she is, such a great and level-headed competitor. Congratulations to her.

Teams are still chugging along the coast.

You can bet that Matt Hall is sweating like crazy trying to stay ahead of Travis - they were two miles apart coming through the hills. Now only one mile apart. In this snap, Matt is at 5.5, while Travis is at 6.3 mph.

ALiy is travelling at 2.3 mph, although that could just be a single slow speed-stamp. Doesn't look good, weather wise.

Jessie said it never let up the whole way in - very slow going.

Travis is now showing about 6 miles ahead of Matt, and Matt at walking speed or less -.3. He's about to be passed by Paige.

And Aliy is in Safety. GOALIYGO!
