General Race News and Tidbits

This is a forum for general discussion of dogsled racing, with a special focus on Alaska, and is open to all. It is expected that this area will see the most activity during the months leading up to, and during the annual Iditarod sled dog race. Pictures from races can be posted here. Hosting is provided by the Bering Strait School District (BSSD), and the area is open all year. Care to be one of our volunteer moderators? Contact us!

It’s so important with the lack of medical assistance in alot of tbese villages, along with elsers who might be sick and a culture/race that do not do as well as others in fighting these illnesses due to remoteness that they protect the villagers and villages as much as possible

I hope those not on Facebook can see this since it's "public". The village of Shaktoolik took it upon themselves to make the new "checkpoint" (no longer an official checkpoint) as welcoming as possible. A lot of work from a lot of people made it happen in a very short time. They hauled everything from the old checkpoint to a place called "Old Site" where the mushers will now go in order to protect the village from the caronavirus.

Oh man, just finally got home from our checkpoint. I am smiling ear to ear, super duper proud of Shaktoolik. Even the lil ones were hauling water & wood. Oh man, my heart is full. We have great people. The first ones there this morning said it looked hopeless but as time went on, it just got better & better. The building is very toasty & comfortable. We all sat down & had a cup of coffee over Kicy after we were done. Oh it was prayed over too. Wow, we are super blessed. May all those who came to help be blessed 10x over. That was from one of the volunteers.


Might not be an official checkpoint any more but they ARE THE CHECKPOINT OF THE YEAR as far as I am concernedi!!
